Amarillo’s Austin Sutter and Bossier-Shreveport’s Ken Carroll Earn Weekly Awards

The Central Hockey League announced today that the recipients for the Oakley CHL Player and Goaltender of the Week for the period ending Mar. 21st, 2009 are forward Austin Sutter of the Amarillo Gorillas and goaltender Ken Carroll of the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs of the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs.
Sutter, recently named the CHL Man of the Year, had points in all three games last week for the Gorillas totaling four goals and three assists. His team finished the season winning two of their final three games. The Red Deer, Alberta native scored a goal, had an assist and was a +2 in the Gorillas first game of the week, a 5-4 win over New Mexico, and then followed that up with an assist in a win versus Rocky Mountain. In Amarillo’s season finale, Sutter notched a hat trick and had an assist in his team’s 8-7 loss to the Rage. Sutter finished the season with 15 goals and 22 assists.
Carroll wins the award for the second time this season (previously won on February 2nd) and is coming off a week that saw him go 2-0-1. The highlight of the week was the Oil City, Ontario native making 45 saves in a 4-0 win over Mississippi on March 20th. It was Carroll’s third shutout of the season and CHL record 29th of his career. He ended the week stopping 95 of 101 shots for a .941 save percentage. On the season, Carroll finished with a 21-8-4 record with a 2.33 goals against average.
In recognition of their achievement, both Sutter and Carroll will receive a special gift from Oakley.
