Alexander Eaton, a rookie forward, signed with the Laredo Bucks on Tuesday.
The Bucks added another player today, bringing their off-season signings total to 14. Alexander Eaton, who last played hockey in 2006-07, took two years off to finish school and is now returning to the world of hockey. Eaton played junior hockey in the OHL and OPJHL, where he posted some decent numbers, and a large number of PIMs. It seems like Laredo is keeping their forwards tough – even the rooks. Here is Laredo’s press release about the signing and some stats for Eaton:
LAREDO, TX- The Laredo Bucks of the Central Hockey League announced Tuesday that they have signed rookie forward Alexander Eaton for the 2009-10 season. Eaton last played in the 2006-07 season, before taking the last two years off to complete his education at Western University.
The 6’4, 200-pound Eaton played four years of junior hockey, splitting time between the OHL and the OPJHL. Eaton played in a combined 162 games in those four seasons, including 144 in the OHL. Eaton piled up 517 PIM’s, as well as put up 49 points (17-32=49). Eaton played in a total of 19 OHL playoff games with the Sudbury Wolves, where he scored one goal and picked up 50 PIM’s.
“Alexander is a big guy, we think he can contribute for us right away,” said Bucks President/General Manager and Head Coach Terry Ruskowski. “He put up good numbers in juniors, let’s see if it can continue here.”
Eaton, from Toronto, Ontario, had his most productive OHL seasons with Sudbury in 2003-04 and 2004-05, when he played in 121 games, while piling up 359 PIM’s, to go along with 29 points (9-20=29).
In 2004-05 the now 24-year-old Eaton put up career highs in goals (5), assists (12), points (17), and penalty minutes (181). In 2003-04 Eaton played in 64 games, scored 12 points (4-8=12), and picked up 178 PIM’s.
“We look forward to having Alexander here at training camp, and what he can do on the ice for us,” Ruskowski said.
Eaton played in one game in the OHA Senior League in 2006-07 for the Tillsonburg Vipers where he picked up two PIM’s.
Eaton is the 14th Buck signed this offseason, including the eighth rookie.
