The CHL announced that Justin Bowers of the Allen Americans and Andy Franck of the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees were the player and goaltender of the week (respectively). Here is the league press release on the announcement:(Tempe, Arizona) – The Central Hockey League announced today that the recipients for the Oakley Central Hockey League Player and Goaltender of the Week for the period ending November 29th, 2009 are forward Justin Bowers of the Allen Americans and goaltender Andy Franck of the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees.
Bowers notched a point in all four Americans games this past week seeing his club win three of the four contests. The 24-year-old ended the week with not one but two game winning goals and had multiple point games in each of the three victories. On Friday, Bowers scored the game winning goal and added a shorthanded helper when the Americans took down the team with the best record in the league, the Odessa Jackalopes. The Halifax, Nova Scotia native ended the week with a total of eight points (4-4=8) and a +5 plus/minus rating. On the season, Bowers leads the Americans in scoring with 25 points (7-18=25) and plus/minus (+10), while the Americans are second in the Southern Conference with a 13-4-1 record.
Franck takes home this week’s award after seeing an astounding 149 shots in his three plus games played. Franck enjoyed wins against Bossier-Shreveport and Amarillo while suffering an overtime loss at the hands of Odessa where he stopped 40 of 43 shots. In his win versus the Mudbugs on Wednesday, the Lakewood, Ohio native made a season-high 47 saves (second most in a CHL game this season, 48 by Joel Martin of Odessa). Franck did not factor in the decision of the Bees 4-2 loss at Allen on Sunday after entering the game in the first period trailing 3-0. He made 22 saves on 23 shots giving his team a chance to win the game. The two-time CHL All-Star ended the week with a .953 save percentage after stopping a total of 142 shots.
