Laredo Bucks Sign Goaltender Mark Sibbald
The Laredo Bucks announced they have signed goaltender Mark Sibbald of the SPHL's Huntsville Havoc to their roster. Sibbald was 10-0-1 with a 1.61 GAA and a 95.1% save percentage for the Havoc this season.
The Laredo Bucks added netminder Mark Sibbald to their roster today. Sibbald will take a roster slot vacated by goalie J.P. Levasseur, who was called up to the AHL’s Springfield Falcons earlier this week. Sibbald has played strongly in the SPHL (Southern Professional Hockey League), for the Huntsville Havoc. So far this season for the Havoc, Sibbald is 10-0-1 with a 1.61 GAA and a 95.1% save percentage (all of which lead the SPHL).
This move may indicate that the Bucks don’t expect to have Levasseur returned to the team in the near future. The team issued a press release about the signing:

LAREDO, TX - The Laredo Bucks of the Central Hockey League announced Tuesday that they have signed goaltender Mark Sibbald. The Bucks called up Sibbald from the Hunstville Havoc (SPHL).
The 25-year-old Sibbald (pro-nounced si-BALD) was the SPHL Player of the Month for November, and is the top rated goaltender in the league with a 10-0-1 record, along with a 1.61 G.A.A and a .951 sv. %. Sibbald was just named SPHL Player of the Week Tuesday.
“Mark Sibbald is a very talented goaltender and he will be a big addition to our team,” said Bucks President/General Manager and Head Coach Terry Ruskowski. “He’s at the top of the SPHL in a lot of categories, we think he will be a solid fit to our club.”
Laredo’s number one goaltender J.P Levasseur was called up to the Springfield Falcons of the American Hockey League on Monday.
Sibbald, a native of Ridgeway, Ontario, has allowed just 18 goals in 11 games this season and has one shutout. Sibbald stopped all 26 shots in the Havoc’s 3-0 win over Pensacola on December 4th.
The 5’11’’, 185 pound Sibbald has not lost in regulation yet this season for Huntsville, with his only blemish a 4-3 overtime loss to Pensacola on November 12. Sibbald has allowed one or fewer goals in a game six times this season, including his shutout on December 4th.
Sibbald has stopped 40 or more shots in a game twice this season, and has stopped 30 or more shots six times this season.
Sibbald Played in 24 games at Brown University from 2005-2009, where he finished with a 3.45 goals against average and a .893 save percentage.
Prior to playing in college Sibbald played in 59 games for the Vernon Vipers (BCHL) from 2003-2005, where he finished with a 35-16-3 record, a 2.64 goals against average and a .914 save percentage.
