Woollard and Jaeger Take Home Weekly CHL Awards

It’s been a while since I’ve had some news to report. But, hopefully you are all still in a hockey mood with the Olympics in full-swing, and lots of CHL action around Texas. In the meantime, the CHL announced some weekly awards, and the recipients were from Texas teams. Corpus’ Chad Woollard and Texas’ Brett Jaeger were named Player and Goaltender of the Week, respectively, for the week ending this past Sunday, the 21st. Woollard played in 2 games, racking up 6 points (4 goals, 2 assists) for the IceRays. Jaeger backstopped his team to three wins last week, allowing just one goal per game, and posting an incredibly low GAA of 0.98 and a save percentage of over 97%.
Here is the press release from the league:

(Tempe, Arizona) – The Central Hockey League announced today that the recipients for the Oakley Central Hockey League Player and Goaltender of the Week for the period ending February 21, 2010 are forward Chad Woollard of the Corpus Christi IceRays and goaltender Brett Jaeger of the Texas Brahmas who wins the award for the second consecutive week.
Woollard’s week consisted of helping Corpus Christi take two important victories contributing four goals and two assists. As the league’s leading goal scorer, Woollard didn’t disappoint scoring a hat trick (his third of the season) in a 9-4 win versus Laredo on February 19 and then followed that up with a goal and an assist in the Rays 5-0 win versus the Northern Conference leading Rapid City Rush on February 20. The Durham, Ontario native tops the league’s goal scoring list with 35 and is second with 14 power play goals. Corpus Christi is in fifth place in the South sitting four points ahead of Rio Grande Valley.
Jaeger takes home Goaltender of the Week for the second consecutive week and the third time this season (he also won the award on Dec. 14 and Feb. 15). He joins Odessa’s Joel Martin (Dec. 21 and Dec. 28) as the only net minders this season who have won the weekly award in consecutive weeks. The Texas Brahma backstop finished the week with three wins, allowing just one goal in each game. His wins included a shootout victory over Allen on February 15 where he stopped 43 shots and a victory over the league leading offense of Odessa where he allowed just one goal on 36 shots. For the week, the Peace River, Alberta native stopped 104 of 107 shots he faced for a save percentage of .972. Jaeger has won eight straight decisions allowing just 10 goals over that stretch and is 17-10-1 on the season.
In recognition of their achievements both Woollard and Jaeger will receive a special gift from Oakley.
