Bucks Sign Rookie Defenseman Ryan Lehr

The Laredo Bucks announced another signing this week – on Thursday they signed rookie defenseman Ryan Lehr to their roster. Lehr is expected to suit up for Thursday night’s game against the visiting Allen Americans. I think the Bucks are hoping to have lightning strike twice, and have the same success with a signing as they had last week, when they signed forward Sylvain Deschatelets right before their game against the Americans. In that game, Deschatelets had 3 assists, and went on to be named the CHL’s Player of the Week. Here is the team’s release about the signing:

LAREDO, TX- The Laredo Bucks of the Central Hockey League announced Thursday that they have signed rookie defenseman Ryan Lehr. Lehr is expected to be in the line-up when the Bucks host Allen at the Laredo Entertainment Center.
The 23-year-old Lehr spent the last three seasons playing college hockey for St. Thomas University (CIS). Lehr played in 84 games for St. Thomas putting up 32 points (11-22=32) and 114 PIM’s.
“We needed to improve our defense and Lehr was one of the guys we have been looking at to bring in here,” said Bucks President/General Manager and Head Coach Terry Ruskowski. “He’s a solid two-way defenseman who can help us down the stretch.”
This season with St. Thomas the 6’2’’, 205 pound Lehr played in 28 games and picked up 14 points (2-12=14) with 44 PIM’s.
Last season Lehr, from Summerside, PEI, notched a career high in goals with eight to go along with four assists totaling 12 points. Lehr was the second-leading defenseman in the CIS.
In 2007-08 Lehr picked up a career-high 58 PIM’s to go along with six points (1-5=6).
Prior to his college career Lehr played four seasons of junior hockey splitting time in the QMJHL and MJAHL. Lehr was an MJAHL All-Star in the 2006-07 season.
In his four-year junior career Lehr played in 232 games picking up 94 points (27-67=94) and piling up 518 PIM’s.
