Mathieu Aubin’s Game Winning Goal for Cincinnati in Game Two

Boise, ID - The Cincinnati Cyclones finished off the Idaho Steelheads in game two of the Kelly Cup Finals just as they did in game one; with a tiebreaking goal in the final minute of regulation. Mathieu Aubin scored with just :20 remaining to secure a 2-0 lead in the series for the Cyclones as the Kelly Cup Finals shift to Southern Ohio for games three, four, and five, if a fifth game is necessary. Tonight’s game was witnessed by 4,684 at Qwest Arena.

Rejean Beauchemin of Idaho and Robert Mayer of Cincinnati gave made this game a goaltenders’ duel with stellar saves at each end. With just :20 remaining in the game, Aubin bounced a shot off traffic in front of Beauchemin from the high-slot, and the puck found its way into the net for the game-winning goal.

Both teams had three chances on the power play, and both teams came away empty with the man-advantage in tonight’s contest. Through two games in the series, the Idaho Steelheads have not been able to solve the Cyclones’ penalty kill, as the Steelheads have failed to convert on seven power play opportunities.

Game three will take place in Cincinnati on Tuesday. All of the action can be heard on KTIK-AM 1350 “The Ticket”.
