The Allen Americans added another player to their 2010-11 season roster today, and the first player who did not play in an Americans sweater last season. Former Amarillo Gorillas forward David Nimmo will make the move to Allen to play for the Americans this fall.
Nimmo, a former CHL Rookie of the Year (2007-08), should fit in nicely with the talented, young nucleus that Allen is building for the upcoming year. Once again, the emphasis appears to be on youth and development, and that would obviously be attractive to a player like Nimmo.
Last year with the now-defunct Amarillo Gorillas, Nimmo had a total of 51 points (29G, 22A) in 53 games played. The Americans also pointed out Nimmo’s ties with Mike Salekin, who played for Allen last season. The two were teammates for four years at the University of Alabama – Hunstville. Maybe this is a sign that Salekin will return for another year as well? He was a fan favorite last season, so there are many who would be happy about that.

ALLEN, Texas – The Allen Americans announced the signing of forward David Nimmo (NIH-mo) today, a former CHL Rookie of the Year.
Nimmo netted 51 points in 52 games last season with the Amarillo Gorillas, which was his third professional season. In his first year, the St. Albert, Alberta, native was named Rookie of the Year for his 84-point season with the Amarillo Gorillas in 2007-08. He spent his sophomore year in the ECHL, playing 50 games for the Reading Royals and one for the Florida Everblades.
Among numerous awards in the CHL, Nimmo has played in an All-Star game and has been recognized as Sher-wood Player of the Month.
The 27-year-old was impressed with the Americans organization during his trips to the area this season. “The whole setup is pretty unbelievable. There’s nice weather, and they have a nice location and nice rink,” Nimmo said Tuesday.
Before deciding to sign with Allen, Nimmo did his research. He played with Americans defenseman Mike Salekin at the University of Alabama-Huntsville for four years. “Salekin had nothing but good things to say. That’s always a bonus when you can talk to someone that’s played there.”
The six-foot-two, 220-pound forward is looking forward to the 2010-11 season. “I’m excited to be with a winning program—just hoping to do a little bit better than last year.”
Nimmo is the third player to sign with the Americans for the 2010-11 season. He joins fan favorites Nino Musitelli and Colton Yellow Horn who spent last season with Allen. After emerging as the Southern Conference Champions in their inaugural season, the Americans and their fans are hungry for a championship in their second year.
Season tickets for Allen’s second season are on sale now. Ticket prices start as low as $9 per game with free parking at the Allen Event Center. For more information, call 972-912-1000.
