In their final pick of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft (unless a trade this afternoon gives them another one), the Dallas Stars took yet another defenseman. With their 5th round pick, the 131st overall, Dallas took John Klingberg and made him the 2nd Swedish defenseman of the day and the 3rd blueliner selected on Day 2.
The word is that Klingberg is another defenseman who has more offensive upside than defensive ability, but perhaps the Stars are hoping to make him a more well-rounded player in the system.
Stars Scouts on John Klingberg:
Director of European Scouting Kari Takko: “He started to come on at the second half of last year. His attributes are a lot like Philip Larsen’s. He needs to fill out a little, but he’s a good two-way defenseman.”
European Scout Rickard Oquist: “He’s a two-way defenseman and he has some bite to his game. He’s a good skater, mobile and moves the puck with ease. Big guy that needs some time to fill out.”
