Dallas Stars relieve Marc Crawford of his coaching duties

The Dallas Stars announced that head coach Marc Crawford had been relieved of his coaching duties on Tuesday afternoon.

Frisco, Tex. – Dallas Stars General Manager Joe Nieuwendyk announced today that Head Coach Marc Crawford has been relieved of his coaching duties, effective immediately.

“I would like to thank Marc for the hard work he provided to the Dallas Stars over the last two seasons,” said Nieuwendyk. “We wish him the best in the future.”

While the news was mostly unexpected, it’s not a surprising move for the Stars to make.  Dallas failed to make the post-season in both seasons with Crawford at the helm.  Nieuwendyk will now be able to appoint a head coach that is perhaps more in line with his overall vision of the Stars organization.
