Americans’ 3-1 victory against Brahmas earns weekend sweep

Allen, Texas – The Allen Americans rally for the second night in a row to defeat the Fort Worth Brahmas 3-1.

After a scoreless first period, the Fort Worth Brahmas jumped on the board first when Chad Woollard found the back of the net for his first of the pre-season. Woollard took a cross-ice pass from Daniel Barczuk, beating Americans netminder Steve Silverthorn with a top shelf wrister to make it 1-0 Brahmas.

The Americans tied it six minutes later when Americans defenseman Mike Montgomery took a feed from Tyler Ludwig, scoring on the power play to make it 1-1.The Americans outshoot the Brahmas 18-4 in that second period.

The Americans would score twice in the third period, first Jamie Schaafsma at the 15:32 mark from Scotty Howes and Daryl Bootland. Then younger brother Andrew Howes would get into the mix, unassisted at the 19:24 mark with a shot into the net to give the Americans a 3-1 lead and win.

Americans starting goaltender Steve Silverthorn looked sharp in net, stopping 15 of the 16 shots he faced against his former team.
“Everybody worked hard and gave it their all,” said Americans Head Coach Steve Martinson. “It’s going to be a tough couple days with some tough decisions to make.”

Martinson was speaking about the roster cut down which will be coming in the next few days.
